Ways to Prevent Gum Disease by Eating Whole Foods

There are several people out there suffering from gum disease. Mouthwashes and toothpaste can keep your mouth feeling clean, cavity free and help heal up your gums, but the key to really preventing and treating gum disease is eating a proper diet consisting of the right whole foods.

Super Fruits

Some of the best whole foods to eat are fresh fruits such as grapefruits, lemons, limes, oranges, kiwis, mangoes, strawberries, blueberries, pomegranates, peaches, cantaloupe, apricots and papayas. These fruits contain high amounts of vitamin C and vitamin C is needed to help keep our gum tissues healthy and strong.

Limes especially help with preventing and treating gum disease because the juice from them helps slow down and even kill some of the harmful bacterial that cause gum disease in the first place. By killing the bacteria that causes gum disease you are also killing the germs bacteria that cause plaque buildup on teeth as well.

Another reason it is good to use fruits for preventing and treating gum disease is because not only does the vitamin C help keep gum tissue healthy and strong, but it also keeps are teeth healthy and strong and prevents them from decaying, which is another cause of gum disease.

When are teeth are full of cavities, we know our gums are not healthy.

So, start eating some fruits containing high amounts of vitamin C.

Aloe Juice

Another great way to prevent and treat gum disease is by drinking aloe vera juice. Aloe vera juice contains antibacterial properties to it that help fight off and kill the bacteria in your mouth that cause gum disease. It can also help repair gum tissue and relieve and heal mouth ulcers on the gums making gums healthy and strong again.

The best way to get aloe juice into your diet to help prevent and treat gum disease is by simply drinking an 8-ounce glass a day, but be careful to do this on spare time when you aren’t planning to go anywhere because it is a natural laxative.

You could also pour a small glass of it and use the aloe juice as natural mouthwash instead of drinking it and you will still receive the same gum disease preventing and treating benefits from it.

Dairy

Other excellent whole foods to eat for preventing and treat gum disease are whole milks, yogurts and cottage cheeses.

They contain high amounts of calcium and vitamin D which are need vitamins and minerals that help keep the teeth and jaw bone strong and healthy. When teeth and jaw bones are healthy and strong, bacteria are less likely to seep into your gums and cause disease.

Drinking milk and eating yogurts and cottage cheese will even help prevent cavities in your teeth, and like I said before when cavities start you know your gums are not as healthy as they should be.

So, eat and drink up some of those vitamin D and calcium rich whole foods.

Vegetables

Now some vegetables that are fantastic to eat for preventing and treating gum disease are red, yellow and orange peppers, carrots, leafy greens, sweet potatoes, squashes and red cabbage.

These vegetables contain a powerful antioxidant in them called, “beta carotene.” Beta carotene contains vitamin A, which is needed to help fight off inflammation that usually always occurs with gum disease.

These veggies also contain high amounts of vitamin C, which is needed, like I have mentioned before to help keep gums and teeth healthy and strong so they do not become infected with a gum disease.

Meats

Now, you may all find this as a surprise, but meats such as beef, lamb and oysters are also whole foods that should be eaten to help prevent and treat gum disease. These types of meats contain vitamins and minerals in them like zinc and B vitamins.

These nutrients are also needed to help fight off inflammation in people suffering from gum disease and also help prevent infection in the gums by boosting the immune system.

End Notes

So, see not only should you brush your teeth with a good toothpaste and rinse your mouth out with a good mouthwash, but you should also eat a proper diet consisting of certain whole foods that help prevent and treat gum disease.
