Insomnia is a condition that is common among many people all over the world. It is a serious health anomaly and does require quick attention. It could result in your body wearing out and depression.

There are many drugs out there that portend to solve the problem of insomnia. This is a pure waste of money and a way to get addicted to drugs. There are safe alternative means of tackling insomnia. There are certain foods that can act as an alternative sleeping medicine and get you to dreamland fast.

The best foods that serve as an alternative sleeping medicine are warm milk and honey. This is because contains tryptophans which is an amino acid that helps increase serotonin levels in the body which is needed to help calm and soothe the body before bedtime so you fall asleep easily. Milk also contains calcium which is a mineral needed to help the body relax by calming the nerves.

Honey, on the other hand is added to the warm milk not just to help sweeten it up, but because it contains B vitamins in it that help relieve stress and aids in keeping your mood positive before bedtime.

For those of you that are not down with the milk and honey treatment, you could always go with a cup of dark hot chocolate made with milk. Dark chocolate also helps release serotonin chemical into your body fast to help calm and relax your nerves before bedtime. It will also make you feel very happy and calm. When calm and happy before bedtime,  it becomes much easier to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night.

Another food to consider indulging in before bedtime to help with falling asleep easier are nuts such as almonds. Almonds contain lots of magnesium, an essential mineral needed to help relax the muscles and nerves in the body. Almonds also contain B vitamins in them which helps you handle and relieve stress from your body and mind easily so you can stay relaxed and calm before bedtime. Munching on almonds as a bedtime snack can even help raise the serotonin levels in your body as well; which is helpful in making you fall asleep faster and better. If almonds are not your favorite nut to munch on try peanuts and walnuts as they contain the same nutrients in them and will help you feel sleepy and fall asleep.

Other equally good fruits to snack on as an alternative sleeping medicine are bananas, berries, grapes, and raisins. These fruits contain tryptophans as well, an amino acid that helps with sleep. They even contain B vitamins and potent antioxidants in them that help fight off the free radical cells in our bodies that make us stressed out and uneasy. When stressed out before bedtime, people usually find it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep.

These fruits also contain magnesium which is that important mineral that helps our bodies relax.

Foods, as listed above are really simple and potent ways of escaping insomnia and getting into that dreamland that seems so elusive.
