Giving Yourself a Facial At Home – Steps To a Better Looking Skin

The skin is perhaps the most treasured part of the human body and special attention should be paid to it. The skin covering the face is the most exposed; and also the most easily prone to all kinds of attacks.

Hence, proper care should be taken in maintaining the face if we are to preserve this most treasured part of our body. One way of taking care of the face is by having a facial done. Though all women take care of their faces; however, only a handful know how to do a facial without having to visit the spa.

In this article, we will have a look at how you could have a facial done at home; using even some easily obtainable items from the kitchen.

Things You Would Need To Carry Out a Facial At Home

The following will be necessary to carry out a facial at home. Though a few are optional but they could bring about some amazing, relaxing and soothing results.

  • Cucumber slices or tea bags for your eyes
  • Towels and wash cloths
  • Facial cleanser
  • Facial exfoliator
  • Facial moisturizer
  • A relaxing environment
  • Aromatherapy spray ( which is optional)
  • Relaxing music or classical ( this is also optional)

How To Have A Facial Done At Home

  • Step One: Make Necessary Preparations

It is important to get everything you would need ready for the facial before getting started. You wouldn’t want to go running around for a missing item piece only to ruin the mood. So, get two slices of cucumber or two freshly steeped tea bags; put on a relaxing music and clear a conducive space to lie down and relax when the mask is working

  • Step Two: Cleansing The Face

Now is the time to clean your face. Use your normal cleanser which should be a mild oil-based one that doesn’t strip away the natural facial oils. Avoid alcohol based cleansers by all means as they damage the facial skin. Use clean warm water to cleanse your face with the washcloth in gentle circular motion. If you have eye makeup on, use an eye makeup removal to gently get it off. Then rinse your face clean.

  • Step Three: The Exfoliation Stage

Exfoliation is a necessary step to having a facial as it helps to keep the skin healthy and alive. You should choose a mild facial scrub that is gentle on the skin. This helps in sloughing away dead skins. You must avoid harsh exfoliators as they are likely to spread bacteria on hypersensitive skins.

  • Step Four: Opening of The Facial Pores

This is perhaps the most exciting part of applying a facial at home; at least for me. It can be done at home. All you need do is lay hold on your aromatherapy spritz, lie down and make a grab for your hot towel.

Now place the middle of the towel on your chin and wrap the ends up and around your forehead, spreading out the sides to surround the sides of your face. You should leave a small opening at your nose. Now, spritz a couple of sprays of the aromatherapy spray into the air. Putting a few drops of essential oils on your towel could have the same effect.

Now is the time to relax while you listen to cool music and the pores open up!

  • Step Five: Mask Application

Apply mask to your face using your fingers or if you want to do it as it is done at the spa, use a paint brush. Ensure that the mask covers the whole of your face; but avoid the eyes. Allow the mask to sit for about 10 – 15 minutes.

You should, however, apply a mask that is suited for your skin.

  • Step Six : Eye Treatment

Now is the time to give your eyes some TLC (Tender Loving Care). With cool music playing, pick a spot and lie down while you place your cucumber slices or tea bags on your eyes.

  • Step Seven: Rinsing

Now is the time to wipe off that mask. Using a warm wet towel wipe off the mask, especially the areas around your nose and hair line.

  • Step Eight : Moisturizing

As a final step, apply your moisturizer. You could massage yourself gently as you make the applications especially your forehead.

That’s all there is to giving yourself a facial at home. You could give it a try.
