There is nothing more feared by many than having embarrassing moments in public. It would seem as if the ground should just open and swallow you up.

Many of us have been there and it’s not a funny thing to experience.

However, do you know that there are some kinds of foods that are linked to causing embarrassing moments?

Yes, you read right! There are certain foods that can cause you embarrassment, but the good news is that there is something you can do about it.

In this article, we are going to be looking at some of the most common foods associated with embarrassing moments, how to avoid eating such foods at certain times and not feel worried about what such foods could do to you.

One of the well-known embarrassing conditions is urinary incontinence, and I have listed below how anyone with such a condition can make it more bearable and less inconveniencing with the kinds of foods they eat.

Water

While water cannot really be classified as food in that it doesn’t contain nutrients, drinking water is necessary to remain hydrated.

Not taking the required amount of water daily can cause problems but anyone with urinary incontinence or bladder problems could experience issues when they drink more water.

It is recommended to take about 8 glasses of water a day. However, those with urinary incontinence can deal with this by drinking less than the recommended quantity of water but making sure that they drink about 48 ounces of water daily.

If you intend going out for a visit or function, it would be wise to avoid drinking too much water before leaving for the appointment.

Alcohol

Alcohol will increase your propensity to urinate as it’s a well-known diuretic; and this could be really bad for anyone with urinary incontinence.

The main issue with taking alcohol is that it relaxes the control over the bladder, so if this is already a problem, it would only just worsen it.

You might want to consider cutting out alcohol totally and see if there is an improvement in your bladder control.

Caffeine

For anyone with urinary incontinence, taking caffeine could be likened to getting killed twice in a roll. This is because caffeine acts both as a diuretic and bladder stimulant, and very bad for you!

Well, agreed there are folks that love their favourite caffeine drink and can’t do without it.

If this is your case, then you might want to cut down on the amount of caffeine you take as complete elimination from your diet is not what you want to happen; though total and complete elimination from your diet would have been the better alternative.

Caffeine can be found is such diets as coffee, chocolate, teas and sodas.

Spicy Foods

This is a big no no for anyone with urinary incontinence or bladder problem. Recent research has shown that overly spicy or spicy foods could cause irritations to the linings of the bladder.

This is a sure way of causing embarrassment to yourself!

The solution would be the limitation of the amount of spicy foods you consume. You could experiment to determine the amount of spicy foods that you bladder can tolerate and sticking below such tolerance levels.

Some specific foods that have being found out to be big time culprits includes:

  • horseradis
  • chilli
  • chilli peppers

Also included are Mexican foods and Chinese or Indian foods containing hot spices.

Citrus

If you are like me, then you are a lover of the citrus range of fruits!

However, fruits containing citric acids are a great problem for those with urinary incontinence.

Common fruits with a high volume of citric acid are

  • lemons
  • oranges,
  • grapefruits and
  • cranberries

Cranberry juice is well-known to help fight urinary tract infections, however for those with sensitive bladder, it could be a real problem.

So fruit lover, think twice before downing your favourite glass of citrus fruits if you have bladder problems.

Carbonated Beverages

Many folks are ignorant of the fact that carbon dioxide (CO2) found in sparkling beverages can and does irritate the bladder, and for those with bladder problems this could be a real issue.

This applies even if your drinks doesn’t contain caffeine.

Hoe To Fight Urinary Incontinence or Bladder Problems

In addition to the above foods that causes embarrassment for those with urinary continence, being overweight can also cause urinary incontinence to become more severe, and this is especially true in women. Just losing 10% of your present weight could result to an immense positive effect to your condition.

So, losing weight is an effective way of fighting urinary incontinence.

Additionally, strengthening your muscles is a very effective method of fighting urinary incontinence, and you can achieve this by performing Kegels. This kind of exercise helps with improving the condition of your pelvic floor muscles and strengthening your bladder.

To perform Kegel exercise the right way, you will need to simply contract the muscles used in stopping the flow of urine. Hold for like three seconds then let go for an equivalent three seconds.

Repeat for like 8 – 10 times.

This exercise can be done anywhere and at any time; and without anyone being aware that you are exercising.

So we have seen the kinds of foods that could worsen urinary incontinence and cause us some embarrassment, while at the same time having a look at how it can be ameliorated.

Just by making simple changes to the foods we eat and some simple exercises, urinary incontinence can be made much more bearable.
