We didn’t spend Christmas in our new house –but we did spend it outside in the snow.

According to the parking lot –snowshoeing/cross country skiing on Christmas day is a totally normal activity in Colorado.

We got snowshoes for Christmas!
Thanks Santa!

Penny didn’t get a pair.
[please note my ponytail blending into her real tail]

But I bet she’d love a pair –as the snow forms balls + freezes in between her little furry toes.

It didn’t slow her down too much.
She is very very fast.

So very very fast.

On Christmas day we headed to the Cameron Pass area + snowshoed up to Zimmerman Lake.

The views on the way up were super fun.

Especially this view.

Hello lake.

Such a super fun Christmas day activity.

On the way home we saw a few fun things.
A ski fence.

A bison.

And a gorgey view.

The next day we were up + at it again.
This time at Rocky Mountain National Park.

We hoofed it up to Nymph lake to get a good view of Hallett Peak.

From Nymph Lake we scurried up a pig path for an adventure of our own.

I saw a very faint snowshoe trail going straight up + decided to follow it.
Extreme snowshoeing is what I like to call it.

After going up + up + up + up + up we finally popped out to this amazing view of Long’s Peak.

My name is Kelsey + I am officially obsessed with snowshoeing.

Cheers!

I love snowshoeing! You should have seen how happy I was when I “discovered”it after moving to WA…the perfect way to stay happy and active through the dreary Seattle winter months.
do you ever cross-country ski? that is next on my list!
Yes,I do it occasionally to prove to myself that I am in fact Norwegian. Only once so far this season (10 miles up to a gorgeous view of Mount Rainier),but hopefully more often as we get more snow. I only have very long, fast skis with no metal edges though,so going downhill is mildly terrifying.
Oh man! I’m not exactly a fan of speed.
What a great day! I need more snow shoeing in my life.
Yeah –just quit working + we can go everyday!
Breathtaking photos,I think I just decided I need to live in Colorado at some point in my life. Seriously this is SO gorgeous…nothing like it around me at all!
Are you coming to the Blend retreat?..
I didn’t even know such a thing was happening! It looks like a ton of fun but sadly I’ll be a broke graduating college student that weekend,so I’m not sure it’ll work out
Those views are INCREDIBLE! What an awesome way to spend Christmas day!
Snowshoeing is awesome! I haven’t had a chance to go in years though. I need to find an adventurous partner to do things like that with me. I love being out in the snow on the mountains. Looks like you had an awesome Christmas!
PS –love the ski fence!
So when you move out here I will go snowshoe with you every day! Sienna can be Penny’s best friend. It will be adorable.
Looks like you guys had a blast! I would love to be this active on Christmas…our family celebrates by snacking and cooking in the (hot) kitchen all day. Thanks for sharing your breathtaking pictures.
Merry Belated Christmas and a Very Happy New Year!
Snowshoeing is totally on my must-do list. I love Penny’s little snow-crusted toes. And the ski fence. Lots of awesomeness going on right here.
AH! fun! I am so damn jealous of your snowwww.. mail me some! I love Penny so much!
Argh, your photos are awesome…such a contrast to where I am –scorching hot beach weather –must be fun to have a snowy Christmas.
Puppy snow shoes would be fantastic (actually, just funny)
Bison are cute
I’ve always wanted to try snowshoeing! Is it a big difference than just walking through the snow with snowboots?
Not really.. it takes a minute to get used to big goofy things on the bottoms of your feet –but you get used to it + you don’t sink down into unpacked snow as much.. but you still sink down. It is megggga fun!
Holy cow you guys have a lot of snow. I’m from minnesota and we don’t have nearly that much. Looks like fun!
We don’t have any where I live right now.. I have to go snow hunting up in the mountains to find any. Cheers!
