Last weekend at the farmer’s market I promised Penny treats.
Nice fancy locally baked dog treats.
I lied.
I spent all of the money on honey + produce long before we approached the dog treat stand.
Oops.
Feeling horrible for lying to my four legged best friend + lacking the desire to drive to the local dog treat store + shell out $12/lb for treats —so I got creative.
You guys all know how to measure peanut butter –right?
To measure 1 cup of PB put one cup of water in a 2 cup measuring cup + add PB until the water reaches the 2 cup mark. Drain water + add PB to recipe when called for. No messy cup full of PB to scrape out.

Looks great!

Get your cookie cutters ready.

GLUTEN FREE PEANUT BUTTER FANCY PANTSY DOG COOKIES
INGREDIENTS
- 2 1/2 cups oat flour [simply made from grinding oats in a bullet blender until flour consistency]
- oat flour for kneading + rolling out dough [cornmeal would also work]
- 1 T baking powder
- 1 cup skim milk
- 1 cup freshly ground unsweetened unsalted peanut butter
DIRECTIONS
- Pre-heat oven to 375*
- In a bowl [but not the mixing bowl] mix flour + baking powder + set aside
- Add milk + peanut butter to mixing bowl + mix on medium high for approximately 2 minutes [could also be whisked by hand]
- Slowly add in flour mixture until dough-like consistency is achieved
- Sprinkle cookie cutting surface with oat flour or corn meal
- Sprinkle dough ball with oat flour or corn meal
- Roll out dough to 1/4″+ attack with your favorite cookie cutters
- Place “cookies”on greased cookie pan + bake for 17-20 minutes —you want them golden brown on the bottom + pretty hard.
- Fully cool on drying rack —cookies can be stored for up to a month at room temperature in an air tight container or for a really really long time in the refrigerator.
Yields approximately 100 1 inch x 1 inch treats.
I chose my smallest cookie cutters.

Do you love your puppy?
Then go ahead —let them lick the beaters.

Penny is an excellent dishwasher.
Simple.
Doggie delicious.
Doggie nutritious.
Inexpensive.
Perfect.

I have never been yelled at by Penny so much in my entire life.
She is obsessed with these treats.

Leave it.

Leave it + stick your tongue out.

Take it!
Good girl.

I am pretty convinced she is going to go to the store + buy a step stool + help herself to her counter top cookie jar.

Looking for a fun treat for a party host with a puppy dog?
Look no further.

And that’s a wrap.
Cheers to our four legged friends!

Love it! I will be making these for my little pup! Such a great idea.
You can cut them into tiny pieces for your tiny pup!
I have a crush on Ms. Penny!
And Miss Penny has a crush on you —she loves girls!!
My mother-in-law always makes the pups homemade treats…I guess I am a bad mommy bc I rarely ever buy them dog bones/treats anymore!! I’m gonna do something nice for my pups this weekend
Dixie says Hiiiiii Penny!!
Penny says hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiWOOFhiiiiiiiiiii to Dixie and Drake!! And to baby butterbean!!
I always see cute recipes for pups, but have to admit, hardly ever have the desire to actually make them. Why I don’t I have no idea. Dogs deserve treats too!!!
I usually just roll out the dough + cut it into little bits + bake instead of actually using cookie cutters —I was just showing off for the blog!
Wheeee Penny is so cute!
Awww,Penny is adorable!! She’s so cute, sticking out her tongue.
Oh,I’ve made pb treats for dogs before! I actually tried it too, wasn’t too great..:)
Yeah —they smelled great while baking. As for the outcome —bland!
Hmmm…I wonder if there are homemade cat treat recipes out there. Wait…nevermind. All I can imagine is nasty, fishy smelling treats. Too bad I don’t have a puppy to bake for.
You should just get a fish tank + periodically pull a fish out for the kitties!
This is so sweet! I love the photo of her licking the beaters haha!
That pb trick is pretty genius! I’m glad Penny enjoyed her treats. Did you taste one?
Of course I tasted one! I actually tried to turn some of the dough into gluten free crackers by adding salt + pepper —no bueno. They smell great while baking —but the “great”stops there.
Beautiful cookies!!! I love the pic with the star cookie in the foreground and Penny howling in the background…lol Love you Penny!! Chloe wishes you were coming too!!! <3
Penny wants to come to NE so badly. She has no idea we are going to send her to doggy daycare. I’m probably way more freaked out about it than she is —but it’s my first time!! I AM SO EXCITED!! I can’t wait for kool-aid fest 2011!!
I’m never buying dog treats again!! These were so simple to make, they only took me about 10 minutes + bake time. My pups loved them, thanks for the recipe –Mama’s gonna be saving some dollas now!
Glad you like it!! I usually don’t even use cookie cutters —just chop the rolled dough into little “bits”and bake —it saves soooooo much time!
How have I never thought to do that? Genius!
Take it one step further + leave the cookie cutters out of things —just roll the dough + cut into little squares. Dogs will never know the difference!
i gotta make these for my penny! and randy, too,of course.
