Well actually I don’t really feel any older or any wiser —So the title of this post is a lie.
I met this guy on my birthday —–>

I also met these girls.

Apparently when it is your birthday people like to buy you high octane stuff.

I met the nice guy again!

I think this is a chicken finger dipped in honey mustard + ketchup —but I can’t say for sure.

I HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME!!!!!!

When we came [cabbed it] home I tucked little Penny in.

On my actual birthday I did my favorite thing to do —
- This American Life
- Bath
- Wine
So what if it was 3:18 PM. It was my birthday.

I LOVE my new birthday wine glass!!
Thank you MaMa K!!

For birthday dinner I made a DELICIOUS SHRIMP + CORN GRAVY OVER CORNBREAD!!
Yes,that is right —I made my birthday dinner. Sounds like a crime, right?
[It was no crime.... Eric made me a lobster dinner Friday night.. Then took me out to dinner Saturday night.. AND I LOVE to cook.. So me making my delicious birthday dinner was a treat!! AND my awesome aunt came over + brought the shrimp + the cornbread mix.... So I didn't even have to go to the grocery!!]
Since I have my new fancy schmancy recipe page —[still in progress] I’ll be able to add this recipe to it!! YaY.
SHRIMP + CORN GRAVY OVER CORNBREAD
Start by making a simple gravy —
- Melt butter in a pan [approx 2-3 Tbsp] over medium low heat
- add in flour [approx same as butter, maybe a little more]
- brown
Once the flour butter mixture has browned add in milk –
- whatever kind of milk you like.. soy.. cow.. goat
- add in kind of slowly
- usually takes a cup or two
- may have to cut the heat back to low for this
- whisk the lumps out!!
Once the gravy is gravy like add in your choice of ingredients –
- I chose the kernels + cream from one ear of corn,4 cloves of garlic, one small onion [aromatics diced small!!]
- salt + pepper to taste
- add shrimp in LAST!!
Serve over cornbread or grits or rice or whatever YOU like.

Cupcakes thanks to E + AWESOME CANDLES thanks again to MAMA K!!

And thanks to Emily for the great wine!! I loved it!!

Cheers to an older + wiser B+B.

Happy Birthday!
Looks like you had a grand time (:

HAPPY B-DAY! Sorry I couldn’t be there to make cupcakes this year
Last year’s bday celebration was so fun…looks like this one was just as fun too!! Glad you had a good one lady!!
Hi Kelsey!!! Glad you had such a wonderful day!! Wish we could have been there! Love the recipe…Sounds like something we would like…Going to give it a try…I noticed Penny found her squirrel??? Or is that a new one??
Happy birthday!
I don’t think its silly that you cooked on your birthday. It’s your birthday and you are suppose to do what you like (or love) to do. I do the same think, except I usually have friends over and cook for them.
Happy Birthday!
I’ll be making my way to Charlotte (first time eva!) in October for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk–Holla at this [real life] stranger if you or Eric find yourselves needing spices/supplies from the ever-brilliant Dekalb Farmer’s Market!
This post made me smile. So glad you had fun!! And,happy birthday
Happy Birthday Lady!!
