Learning to Relax..

Today was not about FOOD for me..

BREAKFAST didn’t happen,LUNCH was leftovers + DINNER can be found at MARA’s site I MADE DINNER tomorrow night!!

Today was all about learning how to RELAX..

I started off by sleeping late–Heavenly.

Followed by yoga at CHARLOTTE YOGA with my friend Lucy.

It was TERRIBLE. Absolutely TERRIBLE. It was so bad that I immediately went home and looked up the YOGA ONE class schedule and planned my day accordingly.

Instead of complaining I will list the things that both studios have to offer.

CHARLOTTE YOGA

-a studio that looks like an office suite gone wrong

-an aloof greeter

-a clock in the yoga studio

-a studio that was NOT cleaned in between sessions

-an instructor who read out of a book

-britney spears + hootie and the blowfish competing for your attention over the instructors voice

-hand towels for sale

YOGA ONE

-a beautiful calming studio

-a warm personal welcome- you are greeted by your name before you even scan your card

-a studio that is mopped + aired out in between sessions

-amazing and helpful instructors + sometimes instructor assistants too!!

-cold lavender scented towels placed at the head of your mat as you transition to shavasana

-towel service

-complimentary organic fruit + hot tea

-a lending library

-beautiful stone showers

-a changing room with EVERYTHING a girl (or guy) could ever need to get ready.. I mean EVERYTHING

I joined YOGA ONE today–so pumped. SUPER PUMPED about my decision.

I also purchased a YOGITOES skidless mat today–

You are supposed to purchase the color that you are most attracted to. I fell in love with the copper mat (the forth one shown below)–which is paired with the deity Krishna.. Now I need to do some research!!

Now I am off to take a bath + start my first book of the summer EVERYDAY ZEN –LOVE &WORK by Charlotte Joko Beck..

Perhaps tomorrow I will talk about food.

Cheers!!

Who was your instructor? One of the girl’s that teaches yoga at my work is from Charlotte Yoga and she irritates me so much I quit going to her class!

Good to know! If my wrist ever lets me do yoga again,I’ll be looking forward to a Yoga One visit upon your recommendation. :)

Let me get this straight…you chose the studio that does NOT have Hootie? The world needs more Hootie. Nothing goes with a downward dog like several blowfish. Or so I’ve heard.

Hey,I’ve been reading your blog for a while (came over from Kath’s) and wanted to comment on today’s post. Here’s a good sight about Krishna and the Maha mantra (http://www.krishna.com/node/388). It really is good for meditation. Thanks for your site!

Sorry to hear about the bad yoga experience. I once went to a session with a huge clock in front of the room, and that alone was bad enough to make me not want to come back! Good thing you still have Yoga One!

Let me know how you like the bpok. I’m always looking for a good one!

Oh man, that’s awful! Bad yoga classes are the worst. When I moved to D.C. and couldn’t afford a studio,I signed up for a series of classes my apartment building was offering. When I arrived the first day,I found that a) the classes were being held in the party room (with all the fluorescent lights ON),b) there were gigantic load-bearing poles around the room so you couldn’t see the instructor,c) the instructor was a toucher …not just to correct form, but for no reason at all and d) There was zero music. I realize some studios don’t use music, but if I’m going to be forced to listen to the fluorescent lights buzz overhead,I need some audio distraction.

Have fun at your new studio!

Glad you found a studio you like! It’s a huge part of your “yoga experience,”if you will.

I have a yogitoes towel too and I LOVE it! I have a green one which represents the heart chakra. It’s full-o-love =)

eeeewwww! How can you play HOOTIE and BRITNEY in yoga CLASS? That’s awful.

I have my yoga class tonight at my gym,I love my teacher —she is super mellow and calming.

Yoga One sounds SO nice. Lavender towels? Enjoy it! Namaste!

Yikes- two things that don’t mix- yoga and bSpears. But,at least it made your Yoga One membership decision a no brainer!

Yoga One definitely sounds like the winner! Britney and Hootie don’t mesh with yoga!

Should I bring a grimy old towel to put on my mat this time?

So glad to hear you like Yoga One! I tried a class at Yoga Flex (http://www.yogaflexnc.com/index.html)
and loved it! It sounds very similar to the Yoga One class. I feel like I will be testing out Yoga One soon as well!
