I was caught in a trap !!.. I went to Trader Joes to pick up one of my favorite things…
WW pita pockets!!.. The mini-single serving kind.. For 80kcals + 3 grams of fiber I couldn’t think of a more delicious + satisfying “sandwich holder together“…ANYWAY—Back to the story…. I had intended to go by TJs to pick up these little guys so I could go home and make a roasted veggie pita—until I walked by the sample counter.. They had a TRAP set out— one to catch any child who had grown up in the 80′s!! (back in the day we all sat around in our hypercolor clothes and ate fish sticks + cheese puffs while wearing candy necklaces) .. FISH STICKS.. “adult friendly”30% less calorie lightly breaded fish sticks.. as if that wasn’t enough to entice me- the stick of heaven was topped with a dollop of homemade tasting tartar sauce!!.. That was it!!.. My lunch was ruined..! After checking out the ingredient lists/nutritional stats it was determined that I would in fact be having a fish stick pita for lunch!!..
I tried my best to boost the nutritional value of this fish sandwich!.. I only used 1/2 of a serving of fish sticks (3 sticks!! it was plenty) + chopped romaine heart + sliced carrot (a long organic one) + 1 T Trader Joes tartar sauce (1/2 serving).. It may have been the best fish sandwich I’ve ever had in my life..! The carrots added an amazing crunch, the lettuce was great + these were the best fish sticks ever!!
I had 1/2 of an organic naval orange from Earthfare as my side.. not too juicy, but amazing flavor.. a few drops of the juice dripped down onto the sandwich—it was surprisingly delightful addition to the flavor!!

FISH STICKS! Haha I’ve had the pleasure of eating those throughout my childhood –actually being forced to,I wasn’t a big fan of them! It’s still a cute sandwich!
These actually tasted like fish + not so much like breading.. yumm!!
You’re right we had fish sticks often as a child of the 80′s! Cute post and tasty looking sandwich. I’ve got to get to Trader Joe’s soon,it’s been almost two months and I’m having major withdrawl! My closest one is 30 minutes one way…and in a direction I rarely go!
Jessica- Thanks for the comment!.. I believe that I would die without TJs!.. EVERYTHING there is soooooo good!!.. One of my girlfriends lives in Raleigh and she has regular TJs withdraw too!..
that is the most beautiful sammie ever –how gorgeous!!!!!!!!
Lindsay- Thanks!.. It was super fun to eat!! I checked out your blog today + love it!!..
